To be exact, this beautiful place resides in Ngetos Sub-District. In order to reach the savanna, though, tourists should spend some stamina and time for trekking. Actually, Oro-Oro Ombo becomes one of the best checkpoints before reaching either Mahameru Peak or Kalimati Post. Thus, tourists can rest for a while and enjoy beautiful panoramas in that area.
The Nuance
In terms of nuance, Oro-Oro Ombo is indeed perfect. It comes with a fertile green grassy landscape and vast hill. On the horizon, tourists can see Mahameru Peak clearly too. After passing a steep hill (at the 4th checkpoints), they would enter the area. Aside from the grasses and trees, the site offers other beauties especially the presence of Verbena flowers. No wonder, the ambiance becomes more attractive due to those plants. The only consideration is related to the time of the visit. It is recommended to come in April, during the blooming season. The site becomes purplish at the time.
Exploring Oro-Oro Ombo
Trekking and exploration become two major activities to do in Oro-Oro Ombo, for sure. The purpose is to conquer the challenging trekking route in order to reach a stunning spot on the highland. Experienced trekkers also take advantage of the site for resting before heading to their main destination, which is Mahameru Peak. Regardless of the purpose, tourists should consider the schedule. For the information, the savanna turns yellowish and dry during the hot season. On the other hand, it becomes greenish and more fertile in the rainy season. Each of the time offers a distinct beauty, indeed.
Along the way to the site, tourists must pass through different levels of trekking routes. A lush forest also dominates the site. In fact, they may arrive at the famous Ranukumbolo Lake when heading to Oro-Oro Ombo. It is recommended to rest for a while and enjoy the beauty of the lake. This perfect opportunity also motivates tourists to build a tent and spend a night or two in that area (especially those who carry camping equipment). Have no worries. It is free!
Once arriving at the savanna, tourists would see the prime allure right away. It is none other than the natural carpet of Verbena flowers. They grow beautifully on an area of 20 hectares! For the best beauty, it is recommended to come early in the morning. Those flowers emit a more stunning crystal-like beauty due to the presence of dew on them. Here is the rule. Even though photography is allowed, visitors should not touch or pick those flowers!
