Baluran National
Parks occupies an area of twenty five thousand hectares in the
far north east of Java. Although a wild life reserve for already
half a century, it was not until 1982 that Baluran's status was
changed to that of National Park, by ministerial decree. The variety of wildlife to be seen at Baluran is quite extensive, and includes the buffalo, deer and banteng (Javanese wild ox), which can frequently be seen grazing on the open savannah. It is also possible to see leaf monkeys, monitor lizards, squirrels, fruit bats, civet cats, wild pigs and leopards. Bird species include the green jungle fowl, kingfisher, bee-eater, owl and peacock. |
