Patrol (Traditional Music)


Kesenian patrol merupakan salah satu jenis musik khas Banyuwangi yang tetap hidup dan berkembang sampai sekarang. Kesenian patrol adalah jenis musik rakyat yang lebih bersifat ritmis, tanpa peralatan diatonik. Seluruh instrumennya terbuat dari bambu. Bentuk alatnya meliputi katir, gong, kempul, angklung renteng, kethuk, kendang, dan seruling. Komposisi ini merupakan aktivitas budaya Osing, masyarakat asli Banyuwangi, yang ditampilkan pada malam bulan Ramadahan, baik untuk ronda siskamling maupun membangunkan orang sahur. Syair-syair yang dinyanyikan mengambil dari Kitab Berjanji dan lagu-lagu daerah Banyuwangi dengan teknis tabun sistim timpalan. Pada saat festival, biasanya diikuti grup-grup patrol dari desa dan kelurahan se Kabupaten Banyuwangi dengan jumlah personel satu grup minimal 15 orang.

Dalam penampilannya, patrol selalu diiringi vokal membawa­kan lagu atau gending banyuwangen dengan cengkok serta logat yang khas Banyuwangi, diselingi ucapan suara lantang dan keras, “sahur! sahur!”

Selain patrol, kesenian tradisional rakyat Banyuwangi sangat beragam. Ada Jaranan Banyuwangi, Janger, Pacul Goang, Terbang Gending, dan lain-lain. Dari sekian kesenian musik tradisional Banyuwangi itu, Patrol termasuk salah satu jenis musik tradisional yang tetap bertahan (eksis) di tengah goncangan modernisasi. Artinya, musik patrol masih banyak diminati masyarakat (tradisional), selain karena keunikan simbolisasinya (pakaian, alat-alat musik,dll) juga karena mengusung makna filosofis yang sangat menyentuh hati. Nilai-nilai natural-filosofis kesenian tradisional ini terletak pada gaya (style) permainan dan lantunan musiknya.
