East Java On January 2012

There are various ceremonies and traditions among East Java communities, in relation with religiosity, it held regularly on every year, and becomes special attraction that are quite interesting to see. The arts and cultural performances and the festivals that are routinely held and packaged in the tourism agenda also enrich the number of tourist attractions in East Java.

The East Java’s Calendar of Events 2012 contains the schedule of some traditional ceremonies, traditions, festivals and performances which held in the cities and the regencies in East Java. It is designed to promote and to publicize the tourism agenda in the whole area in East Java.

It is important to inform that the local communities usually determine the schedules of the ceremonial events by using the calendars of Javanese, Moslem, and Hindu Tenggerese. Therefore, to assure the exact date of the events, it is advisable to confirm the local Government Tourist Offices.

NYADRAN BLURU KIDUL

This annual ceremony is such a thanksgiving traditional ceremony to God for giving the bless and security among the fishermen

Jawi’s Temple Full Moon Eve

This is one of the routine activities that always be held during full moon in Jawi Temple. This activity is also become the attractive moment to promote Jawi Temple, as one of tourism destination in Pasuruan Regency.

This event is about celebrating the art potentials in Sidoarjo and make it to be one of the tourism attractions in Sidoarjo. Moreover, it can also increase the economic value among Sidoarjo societies.

Jogging Track Mojokerto is typical of night attraction at Mojokerto. The visitors can enjoy the nuance of hanging out at night and take some traditional foods around Brantas river and Gajah Mada bridge.

BENPAS Culinary Tour

Benpas is an acronym of Benteng Pancasila. This location is always being crowded by the visitors who want to spend the time and enjoy the dining. There are numbers of menus that offered along the street. There are traditional foods to western one.
Moreover, there is also street vendors that sell affordable household equipments, clothes, accessories and more. Those who want to join morning gymnastic, can be arrive before 5 am in the morning and feel the very fresh air of Mojokerto.

The Animal Museum At Batu Secret Zoo

Batu Secret Zoo

Batu Secret Zoo is an official site of Jawa Timur Park or Jatim Park 2 that located in Batu city, East Java. Batu Secret Zoo is a modern zoo, complete with the high architectural design and numbers of animals’ collection. This zoo can be accessed for about 30n minutes from Malang city or 90 minutes from Surabaya. Moreover, this location is also near to other recreational park, which is Batu Night Spectacular or BNS.

By lying on 2 hectares land, there are three sections become the visitors’ route during the exploration to this zoo. The first section is about the zoo. The visitors who entrance the gate, can exploring the animals in some of artificial cage. The animals are taken from the entire endemic world and divided into some sections like Tiger land, Savannah Land, Hippo and Croc Garden, River Adventure, Safari Farm, Reptile zone and so on.
While enjoying the exotic animals, the visitors can also experience the beautiful sceneries along the uphill and down road.

The second section is called Museum Satwa or The Animals Museum. The content of this museum is about the bones of the animal, like, dinosaurs; the artificial pre historic animals, the artificial of the extinct animals and the preserved animals like butterfly, civet, deer, some of fishes and more. This museum is standing close to exit gate of the main section. The museum is having luxurious white building and high interior design.
The last but not least section is about the hotel inside the location, called Pohon Inn. Pohon Inn is a hotel within the zoo areal, it standing in front of the main location, next to the main entrance gate to the zoo.

This hotel is having the ‘tree house’ concept, which is designed similar to the real trunk and walled by solid material look- like wood. Beside the architectural, this ‘tree house’ is the only hotel in Indonesia that facilitated by moving fast food, forest nuance and surrounded by living animals. The animals are placed into the glass cage, so the visitors seems having close distance to the animals around. Furthermore, this hotel is surrounded by the view of Arjuna Mountain, Banyak Mountain and Panderman Hill. Do not worry about the hospitality, for this hotel is also highly concern about that.

18 November – TULUNGAGUNG REGENCY ANNIVERSARY

The anniversary of Tulungagung Regency is celebrated every year with various attractions and activities such as ” Kirab Bersih Nagari”, the procession which is participated by all government officials in Tulungagung Regency, art clubs, social organization. ”Kirab Buceng lanang and Buceng Wadon” depics the the glory, fertility, prosperity and free from danger in Tulungagung Regency.

27 NOVEMBER – SEA OFFERING
This ritual offering can not be separated from the activities of local people that living in southern coast of Blitar Regency. It is held in every year to welcome the New Year of Javanese calendar. The offerings launched into the sea contains food crop, steamed rice cone, heads of bufallow, cow and goatnight.

November – SURABAYA FOOD FESTIVAL
Surabaya special food festival is held to preserve and raise the image of Surabaya specialties. It includes:

November – KELUD FESTIVAL
Various kinds of traditional performances, exhibition of main products and wall climbing are staged at the area of Mount Kelud.

November – SEA OFFERING AT BALEKAMBANG BEACH
Labuhan Suran is a traditional sea offering ceremony to welcome the new year of Javanese calendar which is held by the society of Srigonco Village, Bantur Sub district, Malang Regency. The ceremony expresses thanksgiving to God by launching offering into the sea.

November – JAMASAN CEREMONY
Cleansing Ceremony or Jamasan is a ritual purification of heirlooms celebrated by Nganjuk community. The procession of washing heirlooms begins by the community leaders and then followed by public who wants to do the same.

November – BATHING AT SEDUDO
08.00 am
bathing ritual at Sedudo is being expected to have blessing from God and it is believed that those who take a bath will keep young. The procession begins with a cultural dance performed by six dancers who are still virgin and have long hair, and followed with procession of splashing water.

November – EAST JAVA DANCE COMPETITION
It aims to select the best-talented dancer in East Java who can perform at least two of five kinds of local dancings played by five ethnics living in East Java. The ethnical dancings include:
- Arek ethnical culture (Remo, Beskalan and Malang Mask dances)
- Osing ethnical culture (Gandrung, Banyuwangi Jejer dances)
- Madurese ethnical culture (Whype, Topeng Getak and Gambus dances)
- Javanese Madurese descent ethnical culture (Kiprah Glipang dances, etc)
-Mataraman ethnical culture (Gambyong, Surakarta Classical Style or the traditional dance developing in Ponorogo, Madiun, Blitar and Pacitan)

Baluran National Park Is In Situbondo, Not Africa

Baluran national park is a forest preservation area that extends about 25.000 ha on the north coast of East Java. It located in Sumberwaru village, Banyuwangi district, Situbondo, precisely on the east border of Java Island.

The visitors that come to Baluran national park will experience the exotic panorama of Savannah and mount Baluran, which is inactive volcano and inhabited by exotic animals like wild pigs, deer, peacocks, wild chicken, some species of monkeys and also bulls as the protected animals in the area.

Moreover, you can enjoy the amazing scenery of the forest and do the safari activities in the wild life and feel the magic of the forest. This park is so unique because 15 km from the main entrance, you can find a beautiful white beach called Bama Beach, here is the habitat of coral reef, fish and mangrove.

The Exotic Ranu Kumbolo

Similar to Ranu Pane and Ranu Regulo, Ranu Kumbolo is wider than both lakes, which has 8 ha and located at 22,390 m above sea level. Ranu Kumbolo is formed from massive crater of Jambangan Mountain.

For those who like to hike, Ranu Kumbolo is the pit stop to prepare their adventure. Moreover, Ranu Kumbolo is also providing a hut for hikers and there is camping ground to sleep over. Also, there is an ancient monument that standing on Ranu Kumbolo. Local people believe that monument were already existed since Majapahit Empire.

Fresh air, clear water, nice atmosphere is the thing that the visitors can get while spending time in these marvelous lakes. Forget the daily routines, sweep away the burdens, Ranu Pane, Ranu Regulo and Ranu Kumbolo is the perfect place to recharge your body and soul.

Caping Ngancak Dance

Caping Ngancak dance is one of traditional dances in Lamongan regency. The dance is describes about farmers in their rice field showing the process from grow the rice until they get harvest. Like farmers, the dancers also wearing ‘Caping’, which is a special hat that only wore by farmer in Indonesia.

This dance is performed by group of young females who wore village costumes in modern style and bring Caping as the main property.

Mask Puppet

Mask puppet is other form of Puppet shows in East Java. Mask puppet is growing in Malang, Probolinggo, Situbondo and Sumenep. The show is like a human puppet, which the puppet played by the human players using mask. The story itself based on Mahabarata and Ramayana classic story, but in Topeng of Malang, there is also Panji’s story, a classic Javanese hero.

Siwalan is a type of palm trees that grow in many coastal regions in hot and dry area with the sea breeze is blowing a little stronger. Tuban Regency and some areas along the north coast (Pantura) of Java, is the endemic place from Siwalan tree.
One of the products from this fruit is Legen, which the water of the fruit. It sweet and fresh and can be fermented into tradition liquor called tuak. While the fruit of siwalan is having sweet and chewy texture like jelly.

The History Of Singo Ulung Dance

Singo Ulung Dance

Singo Ulung dance is a traditional art dance from Bondowoso that annually been performed at Bondowoso’s anniversary. This traditional dance was created by a respected man named Singo. Singo was name of a person who came from Blambangan. He was ran from Blambangan to save himself and stayed in Blimbing village, Klabang district Bondowoso. Singo Ulung and his wife Nyi Moena with Ki Jasiman, were helping and cooperating each other to create a prosperous life of society at Blimbing village. He cared about the rice field and the other people daily needed. Many people were proud about him. Thats why, he was choose to become the first head village of Blimbing village.

One day, he had an idea to create a public traditional dance called Singo Ulung which was played by two people. This dance has accompanied with particular music which makes the audience feel astonished. This art together with Pojian art, Ojung art are always showed at the traditional ceremony namely Bersih Desa Blimbing which is always held every year (the month of Syaban / Ruwah). In the other hand, this art performance can be enjoyed in the annual moment of Hari Jadi Bondowoso precisely at 16 August.
